Heavy Duty Mechanic – $5,000 Signing Bonus

$35–$40/hour | Full-Time | Advance Transit – Wilder, VT

What You'll Do:

  • Inspect, maintain, and repair diesel, gas, electric and hybrid transit vehicles
  • Perform preventative maintenance to meet DOT standards
  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical systems
  • Handle everything from engine work to brakes, HVAC, and welding
  • Respond to road calls and breakdowns when needed
  • Maintain clean, safe, and organized work areas
  • Keep detailed maintenance records using shop software

What You Bring:

  • Minimum 1 year of heavy-duty mechanic experience
  • Strong knowledge of diagnostics, air brakes, and electrical systems
  • Ability to read schematics and follow maintenance protocols
  • Proficiency with diagnostic software and reporting tools
  • Team-player mindset with solid communication skills

Preferred (but not required) Licenses & Certifications:

  • CDL Class B with Passenger Endorsement
  • VT State Inspection License
  • DOT Medical Card
  • Air Brake Certification
  • EPA 608 & 609 Certifications

Physical Requirements:

This is a hands-on job that requires lifting, bending, and working in various weather and mechanical environments. Must be comfortable lifting up to 50 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds occasionally (with assistance).


Work Environment:

You'll be working in a dynamic, high-energy maintenance shop with exposure to diesel fumes, outdoor elements, noise, and fast-moving equipment. Safety and communication are key.


Travel:

Mostly local travel, but some out-of-town training and conferences may be expected.
